Out of the Fray is a game design document challenge.
Created as part of Trinity College Interactive Digital Media Masters Degree.
Collaborated with Mark Shoellhammer, and Lesia Symoneko - 2024
Out of the Fray project is a game design document for a game using a randomized prompt for Trinity College IDM Masters
course. The prompt is as follows:
Walking - Sliding - Explore - Dungeon - Tragedy - Forgiveness
I was in-charge in planning the mechanics, player progression and other sections of the game design document along with my teammates.
The result of the game is as follows:
1. Play as a soldier from a bygone era who main mechanics is that they cannot run, but they have a rechargeable boost that allows them to slide faster. You can conserve momentum and also alter movement midair.
2. The levels all have unique visuals, unique mechanics and aims to teach a harder concept to prepare the players for the final showdown, a timed challenge run at the final level to stop the great evil. Example include teaching boost management in low gravity levels early on and include overheat mechanics in later planets that needs player to not use boosts willy nilly.
3. Complete the levels by reaching the end.
4. The playable soldier also has some minor combat and enemies are essentially minor obstacles that can be defeated but also not important to complete the mission.
